The first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896 in Athínai in Greece. Baron Pierre de Coubertin is the mastermind of the modern Games, he believed in the ideals of the anthic Games at Olympia in Greece, and founded in 1894 the International Olympic Comitee. The Olympic Games take place every four years. In 1916 the Games didn't took place because of World War I. In 1924 the first Winter Games took place in Chamonix, till then some typical winter sports were part of the regular Olympic Games. 1940 and 1944 saw no Olympics because of World War II. After 1992 the Summer and Olympic Games parted from the same year, 1994 the Winter Games were again a fact, and from then they are in between Summer Games. The next Olympic Games will be in 2006 at Torino (Winter), in 2008 at Beijing (Summer) and in 2010 at Vancouver (Winter). The IOC consists of 202 National Olympic Comitees and 35 international sport federations.
