Handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce a ball trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. Teams consist of seven players, including a goalkeeper. The goals are surrounded by a close to semicircular line that's about 6 m away from the goal; only the defending goalkeeper is allowed to step inside the 6 m perimeter. Modern team handball finds it's origins in Germany around 1895. The ball is smaller than a football in order for players to be able to hold and handle it with a single hand. The game is quite fast and includes much contact. The International Handball Federation was founded in 1946.
