Luge
A luge is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleighs feet-first. Steering is done by shifting the weight and pulling straps attached to the sled's runners. The first competition in luge took place in 1883 in Switzerland. Luge takes primarily place on artificial tracks, but there are also competitions on natural tracks, where there are no artificially elevated curves and which are not artificially refrigerated. Most tracks are located in Alpine countries. The Fédération Internationale de Luge was founded in 1957, before that luge was governed by the FIBT (Bobsleigh and Tobaganning).
