Inline skates and skeelers are special boots with four, respectively five small wheels in a row after each other. In 1966 the Chicago Roller Skate Company introduced a boot skate with four in-line wheels, which was unusual to the popular quad roller skates. In 1980 the Olson brothers linked the 60's design to ice skates and the realization that inline skates were perfect for practice when there was no ice. Next to a huge popularity in recreation, competitions and races were organised. Three types of events can be identified: track, road and marathon events. Inline Skating is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports, which was founded in 1924.
