Chess
Chess is the the most famous boardgame, and considered to be an international well respected sport. The origins of the game are not precisely known, but the most likely origins lie in the northwest of India some 1400 years ago. The rules and the pieces with which it's played were determined in the 15th century. Since then only little changes have been made to the rules. In 1924 the Fédération Internationale des Echecs was founded.
