Basketball
Basketball was developed in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith of Springfield University in Massachusetts (USA). The number of players on a team declined in the years after to 5. The sport progressed in the USA into (rather unsuccessfull) professional leagues. In 1947 the BAA was founded, which was renamed in 1950 to NBA, and ultimately grew into one of the most succesfull pro leagues in the world, in which the best of the best in the sport of Basketball show their skills. College Basketball is also very popular in the USA. Basketball grew also international in one of the biggest team sports around. The Fédération Internationale de Basketball was founded in 1932.
