Biathlon

Biathlon is a sport made up of two disciplines: cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, where the skiers have to carry the rifle with them on their back. The sport has its origins in exercises for Norwegian soldiers, dating back to the 2nd half of the 18th century. There are events over different lenghts, also run in different types: individual, sprint, pursuit or mass start; there are also relay events, and the misses with shooting are awarded with penalty time or penalty skiing laps. Biathlon was first governed by the federation for Pentathlon and Biathlon, but in 1993 the International Biathlon Union was founded. For more info see Wikipedia.
