Australian rules football (also known as Aussie Rules) is a game played between two teams of 18 players, generally played on ovals. The game was developed in 1858 by Tom Wills in Melbourne. At both sides of the playing field four posts are erected. The aim for each team is to kick the ball between either the two inner posts (6 pts) or between an outer and inner post (1 pt). It's played with an oval ball, which may be caught, kicked, passed to another player by punching (not be thrown) or run with (provided they either bounce or touch the ball to the ground every 15 metres). The pro league AFL originated in 1897 as VFL.
